ABOUT 在職孕婦 Pregnant at Work
在職孕婦 Pregnant at Work is a multi-lingual, interactive portal that gives Hong Kong employees, employers and families the information they need to understand their maternity rights and duties.
Launched by 平義社 Equal Justice on 15 June 2022, it is free to access and available in Chinese, English and Bahasa Indonesia.
It targets employees, their families and employers who need help understanding what to do when they or someone they know or work with is pregnant at work.
在職孕婦 Pregnant at Work was originally funded and supported by the Equal Opportunities Commission.
WHY VISIT OUR PORTAL?
• It tells you about statutory maternity rights and duties.
• It provides a calculator to estimate any statutory maternity leave pay.
• It allows you to personalise and download a ‘Notice of Pregnancy’.
在職孕婦 Pregnant at Work will ensure that pregnancy is a happier and better-managed phase for working women and their employers.

THE NEED
Pregnancy discrimination is a significant problem in Hong Kong. A 2016 report by the Equal Opportunities Commission identified that 1 in 5 mothers employed in SMEs experienced pregnancy discrimination at work, during maternity leave or in the first year after giving birth.
THE JOURNEY
We saw an opportunity to use ai and digital tools to scale how we addressed workplace pregnancy discrimination at systemic, sustainable and preventative levels.
THE IMPACT
We’ve supported over 150 disadvantaged women to address and solve their too-often avoidable employment and pregnancy discrimination cases.
AWARD
Our tool, 在職孕婦 Pregnant at Work, has been honoured with the prestigious ALITA - (Asia-Pacific Legal Innovation and Technology) Award 2022. This award recognises 在職孕婦 Pregnant at Work for its exceptional contribution in the category of 'Outstanding Legal Innovation/Legal Tech for Good’.
CLIENT STORIES
Meet Jasmine
Jasmine's employer was livid when Jasmine told him she was pregnant. He said she had broken her promise not to get pregnant. He wanted to end the contract and offered Jasmine a HK$60,000 payout. Some intense arguments ensued. So intense that the police were called by a neighbour. Jasmine found the police visit so stressful, and felt so unwell, that she was sent to hospital. Jasmine had wanted to stay with her boyfriend in Hong Kong. She had wanted to give birth here so that her boyfriend could also sign the birth certificate to ensure the baby could acquire its father’s Hong Kong permanent residency status.
